Shaughan was born in Dorset, England, negotiated adolescence in Derby, read Classics at Queen Mary College, University of London, worked for 24 years in IT (4 years at North Thames Gas Board, 20 years with the BBC), relocated from London to Cardiff, Wales, in 1991, became redundant in 1994, and is looking for permanent or contract work in IT in analysis or support team management.

He likes crossword puzzles, chess, beer, watching sport, and is a practising uncle. He collects old books on the Classics, used to play the guitar (acoustic and electric), and is learning to play the keyboard.

Shaughan can spell and do sums, and thinks that the world is quite nice but the inhabitants could be better behaved sometimes.
