February 17th - February 21st 
Attended the 1st Cardiff Masters International Chess Tournament, of which you can read more elsewhere in these pages. Encountered problems in relaying intermittent news around the interglobe, but hopefully all the relevant chess journalists received the info successfully. The Cardiff Moat House Hotel was a very good venue, and was due to play host to the Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) the following weekend. This is a sort of travelling circus of an event for teams of eight drawn from various parts of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales: two rounds are played one weekend each month at a variety of locations around the UK, and many of the top British Masters and Grandmasters play, as club members or guest players. 

February 22nd - 23rd 
Took the camera along to the 4NCL and got various shots of a gross of chess players (that's the number, not an unkind collective noun), some of whom had participated in the Cardiff Masters. Sunday was splendid: met one old friend I hadn't seen for several years, and consumed a few pints while conversing.
Aha, I thought, I'm not as think as some drunkle peep I am, and the sideways doesn't really matter, or at least it shouldn't.
Went home.
